More than 500,000 new manufacturing jobs.

Welcome to VoteFacts.  Based on a statement made by President Clinton, we are asking you to focus on facts and cast your votes on this statement.  Here is what he said:

"More than 500,000 manufacturing jobs have been created under President Obama.  That's the first time manufacturing jobs have increased since the 1990's."

We're taking you into the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data to focus on those facts.  Here is the first part, were 500,000 manufacturing jobs created under President Obama?

As you can see, manufacturing jobs stood at 12552 when he took office.  As of June 2012, they stood at 11962.  That means there has been a net loss of manufacturing jobs since he has been our president.  However, if you take the numbers from the lowest point of his presidency, which was January of 2010 when it stood at 11458, and you count the manufacturing jobs added after that,  you get  to 11962 by June of 2012.  This gives you just over 500,000 manufacturing jobs added, a bit less than half of the total loss since he took office.  Moreover, from May 2009, about the time the first stimulus dollars began to move out, until the most recent labor report as of this writing, the number of manufacturing jobs has increased, on net, by 102,000.

Here is the graph of manufacturing jobs since 1939, which is as far back as we could go with the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

You have focused on facts, now what say you?  Fact or Fiction - More than 500,000 manufacturing jobs have been created under President Obama.
