Welcome to VoteFacts. Citizen Reporter April provides us with this video clip of Chris Matthews of MSNBC and asks that we take some time to Focus on Facts that relate to the definition of racism. Chris had this to say:
"...racism is the belief that one race—whites—should rule all others. Get your definitions straight."
(Quote begins at 1 minute 7 seconds)
Is that correct? Is racism defined as being a white thing? Let's check out some dictionaries.
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
According to Chris Matthews, the actual definition of racism states that hatred, intolerance, prejudice, and discrimination of other races only exists with the white race onto others. Yet, none of the actual definitions used the white race within their definition. Yes, Chris, someone has to get their definitions straight. But what do you think - Do you think Chris Matthews is giving his viewers dictionary Fact or political pundit Fiction? Head on over and cast your vote.
